Hungering after God
Scripture
Psalm 42:1-2 (NIV) – “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?”
Think
As we begin our week of prayer, I wonder how much we long to be transformed by Jesus? This Psalm reminds us that to long for God is not just to long for a sense of his presence we might feel during a moment of spiritual or emotional high. Just as the deer’s survival depends on water, our souls depend on God for true life. As you read those verses, let them cultivate a longing for God, to seek him above all else, knowing that in his presence we are truly satisfied and transformed. You’ll notice that each devotion this week is encouraging us to ‘hunger’. Are you hungry for God today? Do you want to experience more of him? Do you hunger and thirst for him? Today we’re encouraging you to pray with your family and/or loved ones at home. Why not ask one another what you might do each day to help you put God first? If you live alone, who can you ask the same question?
Pray
God of transformation, stir in me a passion for you. Grow in me a hunger for you. Help me to put you first, knowing and loving you more as each day passes. Amen.
