Hunger for Spiritual Nourishment
Scripture
Matthew 4:4 (NIV) – “Jesus answered, ‘It is written: Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Think
Today we’re encouraging you to fast. Fasting is an ancient practice that reminds us that we need God to truly sustain us and fulfil us. For more information on how to fast, see Tim’s pastoral letter. During your fast, turn your attention to God’s word as Jesus did in the wilderness. Perhaps read this verse above from Matthew when you would otherwise eat. Or read a Psalm during meal times. However you choose to fast, let your time of fasting deepen your dependence on God, the source of life and strength.
Pray
God of life, remind me today that only you can truly satisfy. May I learn to love your word as Jesus did, and turn to you for strength each day. Remind me today, as I fast, that you are the one who holds me and sustains me. May my physical hunger lead to spiritual hunger. Amen.
