We had a great time at Holiday Club 2008 (Explorers Go Wild)! 300 children, 100 teenagers and 70 adults were packed into the main Parish Centre hall! Even though it rained in other parts of the country (and even in neighbouring towns) we saw very little rain at St Peters and we were able to enjoy the sunshine and play games and have lunch outdoors! We spent energy with our favourite action songs, including the Explorers Go Wild Theme Song! Martin and Heather re-told Bible stories about God's faithfulness, including Noah, Moses and Daniel. They weren't alone though - they had the help of some larger-than-life animals; Ollie and Leroy. In the afternoon the craft, drama, and dance workshops produced fantastic things and the sports activities wore the children out! For the first time ever there were puppeteering workshops, which were very popular, where the children learnt how to use puppets to sing to parody songs and re-tell Bible stories. The 5&6s (years R&1) were in the school and enjoyed having their own band as well as their own puppets (Maisy, Frank, Lionel & Ellie). The children made some fantastic crafts and on Tuesday we made a giant poster full of prayers. Year 6s had a great time too with banner-making, mug painting, a treasure hunt and a water fight. The children's favourite (as always) was the Holiday Club drama (written by Tom Baxter) with an Indiana Jones look-alike and his crew searching for the treasure of Sotham Tabrex. Of course there had to be the bad guys who were trying to get to it first but you can guess who won in the end! In the evenings we had events for the teenagers, which saw an average 70 teens attending. They played games outside then listened to a testimony. On the Thursday night we had a guest DJs and a band playing old Holiday Club theme tunes and classics. The Wednesday BBQ & Barndance was a sell-out as we enjoyed the fine weather and dancing on the church lawn! A HUGE thank you to everyone who helped at the events across the week and made the whole thing a great success. Look forward to seeing you all next year!
