We had a great time at Holiday Club 2007 (WaveMakers)!
300 children, 100 teenagers and 80 adults were packed into the main Parish Centre hall! Even the rain didn’t stop us from having fun with the wettest summer on record. We spent energy with our favourite action songs, including the
WaveMakers theme song. On a few of the days we managed to get outside and enjoyed using the grounds of the church as well as the Rectory lawn. Martin and Heather re-told Bible stories about Jesus based around water, including the calming of the storm and the feeding of the 5,000.
In the afternoon the craft, drama, music and dance workshops produced fantastic things and the sports activities wore the children out! The 5&6s were in the church and enjoyed having their own band as well as talks. The vestry was changed into a beach complete with deckchairs, fishing nets and a surf shop which daily ran out of it’s supply of flip-flops! Although it rained outside, it was always sunny in the queue for the toilet!
The children’s favourite (as always) was the Holiday Club drama with two rival surfing gangs, the Sharks and the Dolphins. It even included some scenes of a budding romance!
This year had added activity with the first ever St Peter’s Gunge Tank.
Colour group leaders were gunged daily with the final day seeing a quadruple gunging with Martin, Heather, Andy Linton (sound) and Steve Willey (who made the gunge tank) being gunged at the same time. See below for photos!
In the evenings we had events for the teenagers, which saw an average 50 teens attending. They played games outside then listened to a testimony. On the Thursday night we had guest DJs and a band. The Wednesday BBQ & Barndance was as popular as ever despite the rain and we enjoyed dancing and eating!
A HUGE thank you to everyone who helped at the events across the week and made the whole thing a great success.
Look forward to seeing you all next year!
