Looking for Help and Support

Acorn Listeners - Christian Listeners at St Peter's "I just want someone to listen to me!"
Christian Listeners at St Peters  Is this a cry from the heart for you?  If it is, our group of trained listeners could help you talk through either a difficult situation, a time of decision-making or an on-going problem. We offer unhurried and uncritical listening, without offering unwanted advice or interruptions, and all in strict confidence. This can often clarify a situation or feelings in a helpful way so that you can find your own course of action.  If you are interested, please contact the Parish Office or any member of the clergy.

Bereavement Visitors - This a small group of dedicated volunteers who make completely confidential home visits on a one to one basis.  All members of the group have completed a course on Bereavement Visiting.   Referral for a visit is normally made by the clergy who take the funeral.
Members of our congregation  who require a visit for a family bereavement where the funeral has taken place elsewhere should contact the Parish Office.

Connect Christian Counselling -
Connect is a well established service for this area, based in offices near Camberley station. They aim to offer a professional counselling service, within a Christian ethos, that is open to all. While counsellors offer their services to Connect for free, clients are asked to contribute to the costs of their own counselling according to their means. If you would like to know about this service visit the Hampshire County Council's directory of community organisations website.

General Counselling -
Most GP practices now offer a counselling service free of charge, as do many  organisations whose brief is to look at specific issues such as substance abuse. If you decide that you would prefer to choose your own counsellor (and pay, charges vary) - remember counselling is an unregulated profession, so anyone can call themselves a counsellor. The safest approach is to go to The British Association Of Counselling and Psychotherapy, whose members abide by published ethical guidelines, including complaints procedures should you not be satisfied with the service. To find out more, they have a very informative website www.bacp.co.uk, which contains a vast amount of useful information and allows you to search for details of individual counsellors.

Acorn Christian Foundation -
Acorn is another well established local organisation, based in a beautiful house and grounds at Whitehill Chase, Bordon. Their aims include bringing Christ's healing of mind, body and spirit to individuals relationships and communities. They have a weekly lunchtime service of healing and ministry on a Tuesday (except in August).  If you want to know more about Acorn, go to their website, www.acornchristian.org, which is full of up-to-date information.
