Andrew, Paula and Children
|
Andrew and Paula - Andrew and Paula live in
Leeds where they are members of St. George's church, Leeds. Andrew's real
gift is for Bible story telling and along with some preaching, school
assembly work (sponsored by local churches) and various other projects, he
has set up a ministry called tale2tell media
with the aim of using his story telling gifts along with creative media
and the arts to 'bring the Bible to life'. Paula works part time for two
different companies doing their accounts. She is also attending college
one night a week to complete her AAT technician qualification which should
be done by mid 2009. They have three sons, two of whom are now working and
their youngest is doing his GCSE's this year.
Charitable status: In 2007 tale2tell
media became part of Leeds Christian Community Trust (LCCT) so gaining
charitable status and some much needed production equipment and funding.
"tale2tell media" projects presently in development
include:
Bible Stories - a series where some of
Andrew's original audio Bible stories are being filmed for use in schools
and churches.
Animal Tales - for younger children. This
will be a series of audio Bible stories told from the perspective of any
animal that may have been involved or 'seen' what happened! Each CD will
be packaged with beautiful illustrations by Polly Shepherd.
STRONGER (previously know as TNT) - creative short productions for
teens and 20s. There will be both 'Bible story only' versions and
'teaching only' versions, both using creative visual imagery. These and
most of the other products will be downloaded from the web making them
more accessible.
3D Animations - Creative 3D animations of
Bible stories. Initially, the team aim to produce a series of short Bible
story based animations to develop their story telling and animation
skills. Full Bible stories should start production in 2009. For more
information please visit www.tale2tell.com

Amani Students try the rice cooked with the
Haybasket technique
|
Andrew and Miriam are in
Iringa, Tanzania, with Emmanuel International
and their role is to work with the diocese of Iringa on diocesan projects.
They have been in Tanzania for 3 years and already feel well established
and at home amongst the people and at work on the various projects with
their EI team colleagues. Andrew & Miriam have a young baby boy, now
crawling, who also keeps them busy. They have recently spent time
travelling to neighbouring countries (Lusotho & Malawi) on retreats
and sharing in projects with others of the EI team there. Types of
projects include a Rainwater Harvesting project and teaching programmes on
community health (HIV/AIDS resources) as well as practical seminars on
improving life skills. At the Amani Centre Andrew has been assisting in
practical seminars on reducing household smoke and firewood consumption,
using simple techniques such as cooking food in a haybasket which greatly
reduces firewood consumption. Staffing colleagues have included a couple
from Canada – who are now returning to Canada - and they are hoping soon
to be joined by an English couple to work on the fuel efficient stoves
project as well as an engineer to explore future water projects. Miriam
will soon be taking on the teaching of the health curriculum at a 6 month
course shortly to start at the Amani Bible Centre. Later this year Andrew
& Miriam are looking forward to their home leave when they will be on
furlough in the UK. |

Nick
|
Nick is with World Horizons, based in Llanelli South Wales. He is a member of the Global Journeys team that runs mission and prayer trips to many parts of the world, including North Africa, southern Europe and many parts of Asia. Previously Nick was in China, where he spent two years learning Mandarin and then worked for a Chinese-American manufacturing company that made high-tech medical devices.
World Horizons has spent many years praying for the Silk Road - the stretch of countries from China in the East through Central Asia to the Middle East, through which silk used to be traded a thousand years ago. This area still has many of the most unreached countries in the world, and is the focus of a lot of missionary effort and prayer. World Horizons has a vision to plant praying and worshipping communities along the Silk Road and Nick's aim is to take people of all ages on trips to China and Central Asia to meet the people and pray for them. Please see
www.worldhorizons.co.uk
for more information and to sign up for a trip!

Jonathan, Esther and Family
|

Jonathan and Esther have been with OMS International for nearly
four years. Jonathan is Headmaster of Wesley International School. Esther
keeps very busy caring for their four young children, as well as being
involved in the community using her physiotherapy skills as opportunities
arise. They are due to return to the UK for their furlough at the end of
the summer term which will be a time to catch up with friends and family.
We hope to see something of them at St Peter's during this period.

Jackie
|
Jackie is with a group called
Action Partners in Cameroon. Jackie is a doctor working both in a hospital
and in the community where the main emphasis is on education and
prevention. As an important focus of her work, she is serving on an Aids
committee where she works closely with others in the community to improve
the situation. Much of her witness and ministry is to demonstrate the love
of God amongst the Fulani tribespeople and she is spending more and more
time in sharing bible stories with Fulani women, using pictures. The women
are curious and quite willing to listen. Several women when they see her
now ask to see pictures of the prophets - (Adam, Abraham, Moses, Jesus!)

John and Robin live and work
overseas. John has been involved in computer training for people with
disabilities and Robin is a wife and mother building friendships with local
people and helping disadvantaged women. They have two children and their eldest
is now approaching school age and beginning to learn some local words. They have
recently been involved in an English language project on an island off the
mainland for some months, which has been a complete change for the whole family.
They are now back at work on the mainland once again where John is starting a
new rehabilitation project with the disabled in the community. This will include
sewing, weaving, crafts etc as well as a possible opening for physiotherapy
classes soon.
