Short Termers at St Peters

What is a short-term missionary?
A short-term missionary spends a short period of time (perhaps a week, a fortnight, a month or even a year) on a Christian project or in some form of Christian service in the UK or overseas.
Can I be a short-term missionary?
For St Peter’s to support you as a short-term missionary we ask only that you are a committed Christian, worshiping regularly at St Peter’s.
What can I do?
Volunteers get involved in a wide variety of short-term activities, these might include:
  • Working with street children
  • Building construction
  • Evangelism
  • Youth work and children’s work
  • Medical work
  • Parish work
  •  IT work
Who can I work with?
You must link up with a Christian organisation. This might be
  • a missionary organisation
  • an organised church group or
  • a Church exchange programme with another Church.
Who should I talk to?
It is a good idea to discuss your ideas with
  • Christian friends
  • your family
  • St Peter’s clergy
  • your youth leader
  • past short-term missionaries
What else should I do?
  • Pray about your plans
  • Share information about your ideas with others
  • Tell your friends
  • Seek advice from the Mission Committee
How can I fund my short-term mission?
You can raise funds through:
  • Sponsored events
  • Working
  • Applying for grants or bursaries
  • Applying to the Mission Committee
How can the Mission Committee help?
As the mission committee has met with many volunteers preparing for short-term mission, they can:
  • Provide advice about organisations
  • Help involve the Church
  • Pray for you
  • Assist with funding where appropriate – they will want to know what actions you are taking to arrange funding yourself.
How do I apply to the Mission Committee?
The Mission Committee will want to know what you are planning to do and why, and what assistance you require. You should
  • Complete it carefully and return it to Anne well in advance
To contact the mission committee please phone or e-mail Anne Hudson ( phone number and e-mail address obtainable from the St Peter's Parish Office)
