At St Peter's we strongly believe in providing help and support
for both our church members and the community around our church.
We all face problems in life ranging from illness and bereavement
to loneliness and depression, help with problems, or perhaps coping
with a new addition to the family - sometimes we just simply need
someone to listen to us.
We have at St Peter's a team of both volunteers and trained individuals
who can assist with most situations and where we can't we will have
associations and contacts with professional organisations that can
provide assistance when you need it.
We can help you in the following areas:
-
- Bereavement
If you are finding it hard to cope with the loss, or imminent
loss of a loved one, or simply do not know how to go about arranging
things then we have trained bereavement visitors to help you through
this traumatic period of life. For more details and information
on bereavement click 'here'.
- Christian Listeners
Sometimes if you have worries and problems you just need someone
who will not just talk with you, but more importantly just listen
to you without judgement, or forcing their opinions on you. offer
unhurried and uncritical listening, without offering unwanted
advice or interruptions, and all in strict confidence. This can
often clarify a situation or feelings in a helpful way so that
you can find your own course of action. If you are interested,
please contact the Parish Office or any member of the clergy.
- Counselling
These troubled times see people experiencing many hardships and
problems, from debt, unemployment and financial problems, to depression,
addiction illnesses and anger, or bullying problems. Or maybe
you have spiritual concerns that need addressing. Whilst we can
certainly help with the latter we are not able to provide specialist
counselling services. However, we can listen and help refer you
to professional organisations that can provide help. Contact one
of the team for assistance.
- IIlness
Are you, or someone close to you suffering with serious, or long
term illness? Need some help, or someone to talk to? Don't do
everything alone when help can be close at hand. Contact a team
member for information of help available.
- New Mums
Having a baby is a joyous time but can put mothers and families
under extra strain with everything that has to be done and of
course those sleep-disturbed nights. Let us help you even if only
in a small way. We offer a 'meals for new mum's ' service to help
you through those early weeks. Currently these are only available
to mum's who are church members, or members of the toddler groups.
Contact Claire Holt for information.
- Pastoral Care
Each of our services has a pastoral care team responsible for
the members of their respective congregations. These teams provide
the first line of support and can help refer you to other areas
of our support infra-structure. In addition each team endeavours
to visit church members at least twice a year to simply discuss
life and church issues.
- Oasis Visitors
Oasis is a team of church members who enjoy visiting the housebound.
If you know of someone who would welcome a visitor, please contact
St Peter's for full details.
- Prayer
Prayer is a great answer to many of life's problems. Having people
pray for, or with you is a powerful force. For God promises that,
"Where two or three have come together in My name, I am there
among them" (Matt 18:20). If you need prayer for situations
in your, or your family and friends' lives, or just to give thanks
and praise, we can help. Find out more about the Prayer Team by
