St Peter's Church Music Groups
Music at St Peter's

Music is an integral part of worship at St Peter's and each service has its own style, with music ranging from traditional to contemporary. And, of course, church music would not be complete without the organ and the bells.

Apart from our 8am traditional, reflective service on a Sunday, you will find music plays a big part in the worship at St Peter's. From the traditional choir, organ and bells to the contemporary styles of the orchestra, acoustic and electric groups the music blends with the character of the service.

9.30am: Orchestra

As we are blessed with many gifted people, we are able to have a different group of musicians lead the sung worship each week. A wide range of contemporary songs are included in each service with something for the children and often a well known hymn as well. Once a month we take a break and our orchestra take the lead. All ages from teens upwards are involved..it is a joy to see and hear..we pray!

11am: Choir and Organ:

Choir
In addition to leading the hymns, we provide an anthem each week, drawing from a wide-ranging repertoire of music, ranging from earlier music such as that of Tallis and Farrant, through some favourites such as Mozart's Ave Verum, to more recent composers such as John Rutter and David Halls. Organ
We shall shortly be adding a web page about the history and renovation of the church organ - check back soon for details.

3pm: Band

The 3pm service has a group of several singers, pianists and even a trumpet player! The band varies from week to week and this gives everyone interested in having a go the chance to express their worship through music. For the service we sing a mixture of traditional and modern hymns as well as an occasional expressive song for the children.

6.30pm: Groups

The band is made up of musicians that have a passion for worshipping God and a desire to use their musical gifts. If this is you then you are welcome to join us on a Tuesday evening if you are able to play or sing fairly confidently. We expect people to come along on Tuesday's for a few months before playing at the front on a Sunday. We try to be people who hold our gifts with an open hand - knowing that it's a privilege to serve God and His Church in this way.

Bellringers:

The St Peter's band of bellringers usually ring on Sundays 9.00 to 9.30am and 6.00 to 6.30pm. Practice is on Mondays (except Bank Holidays) from 7.45 to 9.15pm. Visitors always welcome, whether ringers already or just interested in what we do.
