Tower reopening header

Members of all four Sunday congregations at St Peter’s celebrated the re-opening of the tower on 29th June 2003.
The 17th century wooden structure and foundations had deteriorated so badly that it rocked dangerously as the bells were rung. Now, thanks to the skill of builders, engineers and architects, and the generosity of church members and members of the community, the foundations are solid and the wooden structure reinforced and strengthened.
To carry this work out the tower actually had to be jacked up off its foundations, but it’s now safely back on solid ground.
The celebration included the cutting of the ribbon tied around the tower (for decoration not for strength!) and the cutting of a special cake by one of our longstanding members, Bob Webb.
